KATHERINE'S JOURNAL
December 3, 2007:
Today Ms. Jansen explained the project to us, and helped the class learn how to use a wiki. At home, I searched NetTrekker and Encyclopedia Brittanica. I found some useful information, but not everything I was looking for.
I'm still missing some big pieces of the required content for the home page. Hopefully I find it soon. I entered the informtion I did find into the home page. I also entered the websites I used into the bibliography section, but haven't yet done my complete MLA-citations.
December 4, 2007:
Today in class it was difficult to do much work on the website because the internet was so slow. But we view a video clip of a lecture that helped us understand bacteria better. We also discussed our timeline, due tomorrow.
At home I researched the missing information but was not able to find much. I haven't added anything to the website except for our timeline which is not finished. I will finish it tomorrrow during free period.
December 5, 2007:
Today I researched actinomycetes during my free period with my parter. We finished the timeline which is due today, added to our journals, and added information to our home page. We are still missing some much-needed information, though.
Also, today in class, Ms. Jansen helped us with our research. We learned about whether we should trust a website's content or not, based on who it was sponsored by, who created it, and their purpose in creating it.
December 6, 2007:
Today in class we learned that our lab on Gram-positive/negative bacteria is postponed until Friday. I asked Ms. Rasmussen some questions about Actinomycetes that I was unclear on. Also I used the Biology book as a resource and found some pretty good information. There was a paper jam in the printer. Poor defenseless Nick was struggling to print his Website evaluation sheet. But then *dadadadaaa* Katie (that's me) comes along, destroys the paper jam, saves the day, saves the printer, but most importantly, saves Nick.
December 7, 2007:
In biology we did a lab to see what types of antibiotics affected different types of bacteria. We don't get the results until Monday in class.
Today I researched a little information during my free period, but didn't have a lot of time because I finished my Algebra homework first. I was trying to get the information I was missing in the home page but haven't found anything new using the evaluated cites.
December 8-9, 2007:
This weekend I've still been reseaching. I was looking for some information on History, but haven't found any. My partner didn't find anything on History either.
I think I am just going to look on the free web from now on. NetTrekker and Brittanica aren't giving me everything I need. I just don't want to have to fill out a Website Evaluation, but I guess I have to, and it really isn't that much trouble or anything.
December 10, 2007:
Today in class we got the results from our antibiotic sensitivity lab. The only results we got were from E. coli from Ampicillin. We got no results from S. epi because apparently it is a very slow growing bacteria.
At home today I found a website that gave me a little information on the history of actinomycetes, that they are effective as a bacteria. I took notes from the website and will add it to our home page tomorrow. My partner has a lot of the other information we are missing, so hopefully tomorrow all of our information is on the home page.
December 11, 2007:
Today we got time to work in class on the website. We are finished adding information to our home page, but I still need to cite all of my sources. My partner and I have decided to start adding pictures and extra stuff.
Today after school, I finished citing all of my sources using citation builder. I'm also looking for some good pictures on actinomycetes. For some reason, we can't copy and paste certain pictures to the website and it's really frustrating me.
December 12, 2007:
Today in class we started our bacteria confirmation lab on gram-staining, and motility testing. We've only done part one, so we don't have any results yet.
During my free period, my partner and I discussed the website, and decided to add some extra stuff to it. My partner added a crossword puzzle and more of the pictures he found. I've been adding bits and pieces to the home page and editing.
December 13, 2007:
Today in class we finished the bacteria confirmation lab. It was fairly difficult and I'm not sure all of our data is 100 percent accurate. Tonight we have to write a lab report on it.
During free period I was told we have to cite all of the pictures on our website. I was editing the home page while my partner looked for his sources of the pictures, but my computer ran out of battery. Tonight I did not work on the website and did my lab report.
December 14, 2007:
Today in class we discussed the lab. Then we talked about the website project, the evaluation forms we had to fill out, and the audience evaluation we had to write. My partner wants to turn the website in now, but I'm not sure we're ready to turn it is quite yet.
I didn't work on the website tonight, but my partner and I will discuss it via phone or e-mail over the weekend. It's not due until Sunday at 5, so I think that turning it in now would be too soon.
